The Grand Theft Auto VI download now has a start date, a size and an unlock time. On November 3, Rockstar announced that pre-loading begins Tuesday, November 10, two days ahead of the November 12 date it gave when pre-orders were announced in June. The game itself hasn’t moved. It still launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

When the download starts

The timing depends on your console. On PS5, pre-loading opens at midnight local time on November 10 for anyone who has pre-ordered digitally, and the PlayStation Store listing now shows a nine-day pre-load for both editions.

Xbox works differently. Rockstar says Series X|S pre-loading starts globally at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10. For US players, that works out to the evening of November 9: 7 p.m. Eastern or 4 p.m. Pacific.

The launch is simpler. Rockstar’s support page says the game releases at midnight local time on November 19 in all regions, on both consoles.

The 212GB question

This is the first official number on the file size. Rockstar says the pre-load requires up to 212GB of available space depending on your device, and PlayStation’s announcement tells players to clear at least 212GB on PS5. Sony’s post also points to options for expanding PS5 storage, which tells you how seriously to take that number. Start deleting before November 10, not on launch eve.

If you bought the box

Code in Box copies don’t get the earlier date. Rockstar says they should reach retailers beginning November 12, and the box holds a download code rather than a disc, so boxed buyers can’t start downloading until they have the code in hand.

Everything else stays the same. The Standard Edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99, and digital purchases made before November 20 are eligible for a free month of GTA+ on PlayStation, which you need to claim by March 31, 2027.
