OVO has spent years turning Toronto pride into a global uniform. Its first collection with Degrassi brings that idea back to one of the city’s most recognizable institutions: a fictional school that helped define Canadian television and introduced a young Aubrey Graham to the world long before Drake became a stadium act. The partnership lands with more history than the average logo swap because the connection was already there. OVO and Degrassi belong to the same city, and Jimmy Brooks remains part of the origin story behind one of Toronto’s biggest cultural exports.

Made in Canada, the collection is built around the Degrassi Panthers’ familiar blue-and-gold palette. Varsity lettering, jersey numbers, phys-ed graphics and retro athletic cuts give the range the feel of a complete school program rather than a handful of branded blanks. A fleece varsity jacket leads the lineup with layered twill patches and co-branded details, while a cotton football jersey bearing number 86, a premium fleece sweatsuit and a vintage-style heritage crewneck carry the idea through the rest of the wardrobe.

JIMMY BROOKS IS THE THROUGH LINE

The centerpiece is an archival recreation of Jimmy Brooks’ basketball jersey. Drake played the character during the early-2000s run of Degrassi: The Next Generation, so the piece works on several levels at once: television nostalgia, music history and hometown sportswear. It recalls the chapter before the mixtapes, OVO Fest and the owl became fixtures of Toronto culture. Wearing it is less about dressing like a fictional student than recognizing the moment when one public identity was about to become another.

That specificity is what keeps the collaboration from feeling like generic Y2K nostalgia. The blue and gold, Panthers mascot, school typography and familiar jersey shapes already tell the story. OVO’s branding operates as a co-sign instead of overwhelming the source material. Even the smaller pieces stay inside the same world. Tees and gym wear borrow from classic physical-education uniforms, while a multi-print tote and sport cap look like the accessories that would have accompanied them through a school day.

There is also something unusually complete about Drake revisiting this part of his career through clothing. Artists often distance themselves from whatever came before fame, but OVO has repeatedly used Toronto history as design material. Bringing Degrassi into that language does not turn Jimmy Brooks into a punchline or a novelty reference. It treats the role as part of the same timeline that eventually produced Drake, the OVO label and a global audience trained to recognize the city’s codes.

THE DROP LANDS AHEAD OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY

The timing makes the homecoming feel deliberate. Degrassi: The Next Generation reaches its 25th anniversary in October, giving the collection a reason to look backward without feeling random. The OVO x Degrassi collection releases Friday, September 25 at 10 a.m. ET through OVO’s online store worldwide. It will also be available at OVO locations across Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Burnaby, as well as The Grove in Los Angeles.

For OVO, this is more than another capsule. It is a Toronto story completed in clothing: the school, the character and the artist who outgrew both without ever fully leaving them behind.
