When you're already on top, you don't need a revolution. The WH-1000XM6 is Sony sanding down every rough edge of an already-great pair of headphones, and the result is close to flawless.

Noise cancelling that erases the world

The new processor and mic array push ANC to a level where planes, offices, and city noise simply disappear. It's a clear, noticeable step beyond the XM5, the first upgrade in a while you can actually hear.

Sound you can live in

The tuning is warmer and more detailed, with the kind of soundstage that makes you re-listen to old favorites. There's app EQ if you want to tweak, but out of the box it's excellent.

The little things

The folding hinge is back (thank you, Sony), calls are crystal clear, and battery comfortably clears a week of commutes. Comfort over long sessions is best-in-class.

The verdict

There's no drama here: just the best pair of wireless headphones you can buy, made a little better. If you want to buy once and not think about it for three years, these are the ones. Must cop.
