LEGO has made a lot of Batmobiles. None of them could do this. The Batman Returns Batmobile (76355) drops its sides at the press of a button and turns into the Batmissile, the slimmed-down escape car from the 1992 film.
The set
2,269 pieces, 18+, $229.99, on sale since Sept 4 after a LEGO Insiders early-access window from Sept 1. Built, it’s over 17 inches long, 6.5 inches wide and 4 inches high. LEGO says it’s the first LEGO Batmobile with this transformation.
Batmobile to Batmissile
It’s the scene everyone remembers: the Penguin hijacks the Batmobile, and Batman sheds the car’s armor and escapes in the Batmissile. Press the button and both sides of the LEGO car drop away; add a few extra pieces and you’ve got the Batmissile. You can display it either way.
The canopy slides open to a detailed cockpit with a steering wheel and controls, there’s a jet-turbine engine at the back, and the Batman minifigure, with a new cowl and a newly molded cape, stands on a stand carrying the Batman Returns name. Look closely for a hidden nod to the Penguin’s tracking device.
More Batmobiles
If you want something that moves on its own, the Technic Batmobile Tumbler (42239) is $189.99 and 719 pieces, with app-controlled remote driving and a light-up jet boost. And two smaller Batmobiles are already listed for Jan 1, 2027: a Batman Returns Batmobile & Duck (67008) at $59.99 and an Arkham Batman Batmobile (67009) at $29.99.
Our take
The transformation is the whole story here, and it delivers. If you only own one LEGO Batmobile, this is the one with the trick.
